A Review of Gideon's Gift

I read Gideon's Gift, (published by Warner Faith) a short novel authored by Karen Kingsbury, which highlights the power of God working through the unpretentious innocense of a child. The main characters in the novel are a young girl named Gideon and a homeless man named Earl. Gideon is tender hearted and possesses great faith in God's willingness to perform a Christmas miracle. The miracle is not a self-serving one from Gideon's perspective but rather an expression of hope that Earl, a surly, miserable man, will come to believe. It's a seemingly great expectation of a man who initially rebuffs even the overtures of a loving child.

Gideon is afflicted with leukemia and the twin struggles for her health and Earl's soul parallel each other and eventually a causal connection between the resolution of one of the problems leads to a solution for the other- all unfolding according to a divine plan. It's a very touching story and one that reminds one of the promise of youthful childlike faith and of the freeing power of redemption.

An Information Resource on Cap and Trade

The Heritage Foundation has a webpage where one can access information related to the very costly Cap and Trade legislation enacted at the behest of environmental extremists.

In an article titled Cap and Trade Sold under False Pretenses authors Nicolas Loris and Ben Lieberman write:

The goal of cap and trade is to drive up the costs of energy in order for people to use less of it. Because just about every business uses energy to produce goods and must pay their own electricity bills, the cost of production for businesses increases, and consumer demand falls for two reasons:

1.Price hikes on goods reduce demand, and
2.People have less disposable income due to higher energy prices.

Overall, production cuts and reduced consumer spending destroy jobs and slow economic growth, which further increases unemployment.

This legislation is bound to impact the poor and the middle class severely in the form of increased prices and fewer jobs. Sadly the environmental benefits are very dubious. This is yet another illustration of a powerful special interest group- environmentalists- throwing roadblocks in the way of prosperity. The environmental sloganism has an air of religiosity to it.

Inaccurate Information on Credit Reports

When a credit bureau is notified that there is a dispute about the accuracy of information the credit bureau is required by law to conduct an investigation within 30 days. If the misinformation is confirmed then the credit bureau must change or remove the data. There is no charge for this and within five business days of terminating the investigation the relevant individual must be sent the investigative results along with his or her copy of the credit report. Also, the law requires the credit bureau to share the corrected information with major credit bureaus.1
